Poohla’s Pool Party

July 17, 2008

The boys and I had a good time today. The sun finally came out so Paula invited us out to her pool at Sienna Plantation. Andy had us at his bar at Sienna Grill for drinks and dinner afterwards. What an awesome time! The sun gets you tired. And boy was it HOT! Now back to work and the real world tomorrow. What a week!

“When life hands you lemons, go make orange juice.” … Now I know that quote as written by me makes about as much sense as an M.C. Escher but what the hell… Impossible Reality is something we should ALL be aiming for anyways! At least that’s what I believe….

While we’ve been having one heck of a summer, the last few weeks have been challenging in certain respects to long-term goals. As is such, this past week or so has brought good news as far as personal success for us. Chris succeeded in knocking out his interview yesterday and got the job he wanted! Also, An old ex of mine (the one I dated for over 2 years) called to tell me that she was going to be a mom. Usually, when an ex calls to say she’s pregnant, its not a good thing, but this one is a good friend that I care deeply about so I am sincerely so happy for her! And speaking of babies, Alaina & Jordan’s Baby Shower is coming together well! Its a big deal for me since I introduced those two to each other and am planning the shower with Lindsey. On top of that, Venesa got her teaching job, Emily got her new phone, Ash got her man, and GNZ & Ramiro are moving into their new place this weekend. Now this is a lot to take in but a few other good things happened to others as well as me also. All-in all, we have plenty of cause for celebration and I just want to let all of you know that I’m genuinely happy at all the good things that have been happening to everyone! I appreciate all of it, I promise! 🙂

So in light of all this, Chris and I hosted an absolutely spontaneous good time at the house in Lakes for the small group that popped over at the house. Burgers, Bratwurst, and Grilled-Asparagus completed the menu. Pinot Grigio completed Venesa. And the pool/hot tub combo completed us all! It was a lot of fun and as far as I’m concerned no drama happened at all! And topping the night off with watching The Departed on the brand-spankin’ new PS3 Blue Ray Player was fetch for real! So here are some pics, minus the ones from the Maxim Camera which will be uploaded later). Word to life. We’re fresh to death. Holler if you hear me!

Cheers to good people!

July 2006: California & Vegas Trip

July 17, 2008

Isn’t it ironic that only when I’m gone do I ever feel like home? Things are so complicated at times… I spent the past week and a half or so out in California & Las Vegas away from the pressures of work, the dull of everyday life, and close to quality time with loved ones that I never get to see.

The day after getting there and resting the night at the Marriot in Fullerton, Courtney took me out to see Torrance and the ports, West Coast Choppers, and the 90210 School in Torrance before JP, Court, & I picked up a bottle of Southern Comfort for me and took off on the 5 hour drive to Livermore. Thanks Courtney & JP!

Family from the Campo side poured in from all over the country and the Philippines for my cousin Audra & Alan’s wedding and the subsequent reunion. Livermore, the Triska’s vineyard where the wedding/reunion took place is an absolutely gorgeous place. Uncle Mark & Aunt Mitzi have made a beautiful home for themselves.

The wedding itself was a beautiful ceremony. Audra & Alan had the funniest and sweetest vows. Walking off to Sinatra wasa  nice touch as well. And being the reception was at a vineyard, I think we all overindulged a bit on the wine. As for me, well I don’t remember much but judging from some of the pictures, the ones I won’t post, well, let’s just say I got smashed.

After the wedding, I was trying to reach my cousin Michelle so I could see them in Napa but I couldn’t get a hold of them. I Went to visit San Francisco & the Bay Area to see the Golden Gate, Alcatraz, curvy streets, and have some world famous clam chowder at the wharf. SF is really one of the prettiest cities I have ever been to. SO much character!

Eventually, we made it back to LA after spending 4th of July touring around Pebble Beach, Carmel, Monterey, and passing through Santa Barbara on the Pacific Coast. Spent the next 2 days in San Dimas at Uncle Bong’s for some awesome food and several bottles of Johnny Walker. During this time, JP & Bujoy took us around Huntington Beach, Hermosa, West Covina, and Krispy Kreme for some awesome donuts. This would be the last I would see of L.A. before heading out to Las Vegas.

I spent a lot of time in Vegas gambling by myself and with Chiara. I actually doubled my gambling money playing blackjack before unceremoniously losing it all, betting $100 hands in blackjack and giving everything more back to the casino. It’s funny how that works. Knowing when to stop is the most important key in gaming. After 2 days and wearing myself out @ the casinos, gameworks, & buffets @ the Bellagio, I was ready to go home…. only to realize I don’t really like being back. lol. At least I got back to Houston in time to watch the fights. I was at the MGM Grand for the pre-fight hype and back to Houston watching it at Al’s within a few hour span. Ehh. Sunday Dim Sum with my dad and some R&R and I’m back to work tommorow. C’est La’Vies. Whatever.

Easter Weekend 2006

July 17, 2008

UFC 59  Frankensteins

Watched UFC 59 last night at the bar with the guys from the gym and some other friends. Overall, a good time, except for the fact that the card ran a little too late to make it out to midtown afterwards, which we had planned all week. That and I missed the main event, which was the best (and most exciting) fight of the entire card. Complete and utter disappointment on my part but at least Gino gave me the recap on the  phone. I was so sad I just went home and went to bed. Worked out though. At least I didn’t feel like crap driving to San Antonio on Sunday.

Crime: Pretty girls couldn’t wait the 2 minutes 43 seconds for event to end so we could leave.
Verdict: GUILTY!

For Easter Sunday, my parents and I took a road trip to San Antonio to have lunch. We picked up a hungover Kris in his San Marcos condo…

…then went to meet Tina and Steve for lunch at Zio’s in San Antonio…

…we went back to my sister’s apartment, took a nap and hung out at Tina’s apartment for a few hours before heading back to Houston.
