The Alphabet of Bars – A Drinking Game of Sorts

August 5, 2008

On a rare occasion during your escapades, you may find yourself in a predicament that is out of your ordinary routine. And other times, while drinking, it is highly likely that you’ll find yourself in equally unique predicaments. Now when you combine the two into a drink-escapade, you may end up with some pretty creative ideas for having a good time. For two self-proclaimed “cute chicks in their very early 30’s” over at the Houstonchick blog, this guiding principle of combining alcohol with social adventure has helped them create the most original social concept this writer has seen in weeks, The Alphabet of Bars.

Their game, drummed up as an inspiring way to relaunch themselves in the social scene with “fierce abandon,” consists of going out to a different bar every week, each with a name corresponding to one of the 26 letters of the alphabet. (Rules Below)

  1. We will go to 26 bars, each starting with a letter of the alphabet.
  2. We must go to at least one bar per week.
  3. We must go in order of the alphabet.  No exceptions.
  4. We can do 2 bars in one night, if we are feeling lucky.
  5. We must have at least one drink per bar.  (Duh, we’ll usually have more, but see #4)
  6. A picture of us, along with any friends along for this ride, must be taken under/with bar signage.
  7. We must try our best to go to bars, not restaurants with bars in them.  No cheating unless absolutely necessary.  (”Q” anyone?)
  8. We have to complete our mission by the end of the year or we will self-destruct.

I for one, think this is a novel idea. Surefire way to push yourself out there, do things you wouldn’t normally do, get out of your routine, and meet some interesting-as-hell people. Kudos to Carla and Jess for their genius idea.
