Lions and Tigers and Bears: The Houston Zoo

After a weekend filled with happiness and sadness, laughter and tears, hope and despair….

Sunday brought about a much needed reprieve in the form of family fun day. Chad and myself went with Adrien and her son Isiah to spend a day in the sun at the Houston Zoo in Hermann Circle. This was my first trip to a zoo since my parents took me to the Bronx as a kid. So let me be the first to say that this was well worth the price of admission, $10 for non-members.

It was hard to sum up my favorite part of the experience. First it was definitely the big cats but then the monkeys lunged at us and took the lead. Two hours later and I had a new favorite in the reptile exhibits and the albino alligator. And finally, right before closing time, we found the aquarium, where we crawled into a tunnel within a piranha tank. I guess you could say that the whole zoo was a favorite in terms of fun things to do on a nice Houston afternoon.

I would highly recommend the Houston Zoo to anyone with children or looking to get away from the typical hustle and bustle of the city for a few hours. It is definitely a wonderful educational change of pace.
